BODE

Young designers from Ukraine, an untapped frontier of fashion BODE

Bode takes a wide variety of archaic and unique textiles and turns them into classic, eye-catching workwear silhouettes.
With dual degrees in philosophy and menswear design, Bode founded the brand less than a year ago in 2016,
became the first female menswear designer to present a collection at New York Fashion Week for men.
Here’s what you need to know about Bode’s appeal and more.

What is BODE?

BODE is a luxury menswear brand launched in 2016.
The brand concept is to “respect the beauty of handwork and give it new life.”
The designers’ personal and traditional techniques are used in their designs, with traditional vintage quilt mending appliqués from the eastern United States, tailored into modern silhouettes for work jackets, pants, shirts, and more.
Each piece is lovingly crafted from fabrics as diverse as century-old tablecloths, burlap sacks, and Victorian-style bed sheets.
In her hands, woven fabrics with beautiful floral embroidery are transformed into shirts with old-fashioned silhouettes, and the brand’s eponymous quilts, revived through repeated treatments using traditional techniques, are transformed into tapestry coats.
Bode’s love for these historic patterns and fabrics was nurtured by her girlhood vacations in Massachusetts and Atlanta.
