History of HANAE MORI
Founder Hanae Mori was born in Shimane Prefecture in 1926.
After studying fashion at Doremé (Dressmaker’s Academy), she established her studio “Hiyoshiya” in Shinjuku in 1951.
She then went on to design costumes for hundreds of films during the heyday of Japanese cinema in the 1950s.
In 1963, she founded the ready-to-wear division “Vivid” in Japan.
In 1965, she debuted her first overseas collection in New York.
In 1974, sales began in London, and subsequently, Hanae Mori’s clothing was sold in Switzerland, Germany, and Belgium,
leading to the establishment of “Hanae Mori International” in 1976.
Hanae Mori retired after her 2004 autumn/winter haute couture collection.
In 2018, Kenji Matsushige was appointed as the new designer for “Hanae Mori (HANAE MORI).” He began designing for the
2020 spring/summer collection.
