What is MIKIMOTO?
Mikimoto is a jewelry brand founded in Japan in 1899, specializing primarily in cultured pearls.
Its founder, Kokichi Mikimoto, laid the foundation for Japan’s modern jewelry industry by establishing the pearl specialty store “Mikimoto Pearl Store” after achieving the world’s first successful pearl cultivation.
In 1924, it was designated as a purveyor to the Imperial Household.

History of MIKIMOTO
In 1893, founder Mikimoto Kokichi succeeded in cultivating the world’s first half-round pearl.
In 1899, he opened Japan’s first pearl specialty store, “Mikimoto Pearl Shop,” in Ginza.
In 1913, beginning with the opening of a London branch, the company expanded internationally to New York, Paris, and beyond.
Supplying Mikimoto Pearls worldwide, it established its name as synonymous with cultured pearls and as a symbol of Japanese culture.
In 2005, the flagship store Mikimoto Cosmetics Ginza, featuring an attached aesthetic salon, opened in Ginza.
