Marc Jacobs is a designer from New York, USA. With his own name as the brand name, he handles a wide range of fashion items such as bags, wallets, watches and accessories as well as women’s, men’s and children’s wear.

History of Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs was born in 1963 in New York City, U.S.A. In 1981, he enrolled at Parsons School of Design, where he won various awards, including the Perry Ellis Award.

In 1984, he formed a partnership with Robert Duffy, and together they founded Jacobs Duffy Design.
In 1986, he founded Marc Jacobs and held the brand’s first collection.
In 1988, he became head of the women’s department at Perry Ellis, where he introduced the Grunge collection. However, Marc Jacobs’ designs were not accepted by the conservative Ellis customers, and he ended the collection line and was fired during his contract.

In 1996, he started a second line, Marc Jacobs Look, and in 1997, he was chosen as the artistic director of Louis Vuitton, which was planning to enter the prêt-à-porter market. Overseeing all womenswear, menswear and accessories, Louis Vuitton’s womenswear collection line debuted at the Paris Prêt-à-Porter collection in 1998 A/W. Using the most luxurious materials, Louis Vuitton presented elegant, exquisite and simple designs.
It contributed greatly to Louis Vuitton’s growth from a well-established bag brand to a first-class “fashion brand”, and Louis Vuitton’s sales increased significantly, establishing its absolute position as a brand. (The men’s line started in 2000).
　
In 2015, it was announced that the second line Marc by Marc Jacobs would be terminated and integrated with Marc Jacobs (MARC JACOBS).
