History of Givenchy
Hubert de Givenchy, the founder of Givenchy, was born in 1927 into a French aristocratic family.
At the age of 17, he joined the maison of French fashion designer Jacques Fatt and began his career as a designer in earnest. After becoming independent, he established his own company and presented his first collection.
His collections were praised for their innovative ideas, and he came to be known as the “prodigy of mode.
GIVENCHY grew year by year, launching the womenswear line “GIVENCHY UNIVERSITY” in 1956, followed by a perfume line in 1962.
In 1972, the company introduced men’s cosmetics, and the following year, the menswear line “GENTLEMAN GIVENCHY” was launched.
In 1995, he appointed his successor as designer, John Galliano.
In 1999, “GENTLEMAN GIVENCHY” was changed to GIVENCHY (Givenchy), which is also the current brand name.
