History of ZEGNA
In 1910, Ermenegildo Zegna founded a factory in the small town of Trivero in the Biella Alps. Initially, Ermenegildo
Zegna started as a textile manufacturer and began producing high-quality woolen fabrics in the 1930s.
This gradually made the company famous for its men’s clothing fabrics.
In the 1980s, the founder’s grandson, Ermenegildo Zegna (current CEO and namesake of the founder), took over as head
of the ready-to-wear division.
The company grew not only as a manufacturer of high-end clothing but also as a brand.
In 2012, Stefano Pilati, formerly of Yves Saint Laurent, was appointed head designer of Ermenegildo Zegna. In February
2016, Alessandro Sartor, who had served as artistic director of Berluti for approximately five years, was appointed as
the new artistic director.
In 2018, the company acquired Thom Browne.
