History of Patek Philippe
Patek Philippe was founded in Switzerland in 1839 by Antoine Norbert de Patek and Francois Czapek.
In 1851, a pocket watch exhibited at the London World’s Fair won a gold medal. In 1868, the company created its first
wristwatch.
In Japan, Emperor Showa often wore Patek Philippe watches.
In 2005, one sold for approximately $11 million (1.15 billion yen), the highest price ever paid for a watch.
In 2008, Patek Philippe’s tourbillon wristwatch, the Ref. 5002P Sky Moon Tourbillon, was valued at $149,000
(approximately 160 million yen). This surpassed the value of the Tour de l’Ile produced by Vacheron Constantin, making
it the most expensive wristwatch ever produced in recent years.
