History of Nina Ricci

In 1932, Nina Ricci founded her eponymous brand, Nina Ricci.
She started her own haute couture maison in Paris.
Her style was characterized by elegant and graceful dresses, and her highly skilled creations were favored by the upper class of the time for their feminine, rounded lines, movement, perfect sewing, and affordable prices.
In 1945, Nina’s son, Robert, took over the management of the company, and Nina herself began to concentrate on design.
Combined with Robert’s management skills and the success of the perfume division, Nina Ricci became a global grand house.
In terms of perfumes, the 1948 “Rail du Temps” (Air of the Times) in a matte glass bottle with a bird-shaped stopper was a long-running hit around the world with its spicy, clean and gentle scent that was well received by a wide range of consumers.
In 1959, due to old age, Nina Ricci retired from her creative activities.
Jules-François Klahe was appointed as her successor. In 1964, Gérard Pipard, who had been active in the world of prêt-à-porter, was appointed chief designer.
In 1970, Nina Ricci passed away.
In recent years, in 2018, Botter’s Rushemie Botter and Lizzie Hellebler were appointed as the new creative directors, continuing the history of Nina Ricci.
