Lacoste, famous for its crocodile logo.

Lacoste is a very famous brand in Japan.
The alligator mark is catchy and has become the trademark of the brand.
However, the history of Lacoste goes back very far.
Here, we will introduce you to the history and features of Lacoste.

What is Lacoste?

Lacoste is a French apparel brand.
The founder, René Lacoste, was a professional tennis player and is said to be the first player to bring the so-called polo shirt (short-sleeved collared knit shirt), a knit shirt with a collar that had been used by players of the sport of polo since around 1920, to the tennis industry.
However, he does not seem to be the inventor of the polo shirt as is commonly believed.
He is known for his trademark of an alligator facing right when viewed from the front.

History of Lacoste

Lacoste (LACOSTE) was born in 1933. The brand began with a polo shirt invented by René Lacoste in 1920 to make it easier for tennis players to move around.
The brand started with tennis wear, but expanded to include ski wear and casual wear, and in the 1960s developed perfumes and leather goods, and in 1981 added sunglasses and in 1985 tennis shoes to its lineup.
In 2011, the company launched Lacoste Live, a new line aimed at a younger, avant-garde and contemporary clientele.
In October 2018, British designer Louise Trotter was appointed as the company’s first female creative director.
