What is ESSAY?


ESSAY is a Japanese fashion brand founded by Ryusuke Kase and Hirohide Takei, which started in Fall/Winter 2015.
The concept of the brand is “to try,” and the designers present their own experiences and sensitivities as they are.
The brand is experimenting with various expressions, such as how much playfulness can be naturally added to basic
wear.
The basic but slightly different designs are characteristic of the brand.
They are real clothes, but also playful, and many of them are easy to wear and very interesting to wear on a daily
basis.

History of ESSAY


Both designers graduated from the same university.
Kase-san worked at a vintage clothing store “go getter” in Harajuku, and later gained experience at an Austrian
brand “Edwina Hörl”.
Takei-san gained experience at “DUNE SHOWROOM” and “Nid tokyo” before starting her own brand in 2015.
