History of ATO


Atou launched Atou as a menswear brand in 1993 and opened a store in Minami-Aoyama at the same time.
Initially, the brand was launched by three people, including a friend who was in charge of pattern making, but due to differences in direction, only Yoh Matsumoto, who was involved in operations and management, remained with the brand.
After his friends left, he devoted himself energetically to making clothes, and as a result, he participated in the Tokyo Collections the following year and quickly emerged as a top designer.
In 1999, the brand began to be sold in famous select stores such as Barneys New York, and in 2000, Matsumoto made its first foray into the international market.
In 2000, the brand expanded overseas after a successful exhibition in Paris for the spring/summer season.
